Philander canus has short, uniformly gray back fur and pale underparts. A 2018 revision reports that in eastern Bolivia’s Cerrado landscapes it is apparently restricted to tall evergreen gallery forest.
The back fur is short and uniformly gray, usually without a darker stripe down the middle. The belly is whitish, cream, or buff along at least the midline, though broad areas of gray-based hairs sometimes occur on the sides.
In Cerrado landscapes of eastern Bolivia, Philander canus is apparently restricted to tall evergreen gallery forests and does not seem to occur in the surrounding savannas and dry forests.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
