This large opossum has pale spots above the eyes that create a “four-eyed” look. It occurs in eastern Peru and northwestern Brazil, but species-specific ecological information is limited.
Pale spots above the eyes create the appearance of a second pair of eyes. It has a slim body, a relatively large head, and a long pointed muzzle; the dark back is shaggy, and the tail is furred near its base.
Females carrying young in their pouches have been captured in several months in Peru and Brazil, suggesting breeding may occur year-round. The account cautions that little else is known about this species’ reproduction.
