This wren-babbler has a very restricted range in Mizoram, eastern India, and the Chin Hills of northern Myanmar. It forages near the ground in dense montane undergrowth.
It is about 10 cm long, dark brown with white flank streaks. Males have a broad white throat and belly, while females are more rufous-chestnut.
It inhabits thick montane broadleaf undergrowth and feeds near the ground on ants, small beetles, and other insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
