This is a large house bat. A study verified specimen records from Senegal, Benin, and South Africa, while noting that its biology remains poorly documented.
The paper describes it as the largest member of Scotophilus and one of the largest vespertilioniform bats.
The 2015 paper says records of the species' occurrence and biology are still limited.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
