A small bat with very large ears, it has been recorded in mountain areas of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador.
It is small for its genus, with a forearm under 47 mm, a delicate skull and small, weak teeth.
In Venezuela and Colombia, recorded localities are scattered across mountain areas at about 1,500–2,200 m.
In Venezuela’s northern Coastal Range it was captured in moist evergreen secondary forest, both on forest trails and in a livestock pen where trees remained after undergrowth was cleared.
On 26 September 2016, one juvenile female was obtained from a house roof at Llacao near Cuenca, Ecuador, at 2,650 m.
The described adults have bright tan to brown backs and buff underparts, with dark hair bases.
Adults described in 1996 had ears 28–32 mm long, with a broad lobe at the front of each ear.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
