One of the largest Platyrrhinus bats, this Andean species has nearly blackish-brown dorsal fur, a paler underside, and white lines across the face and down the back. In 2021, a group was observed day-roosting in a dark cavity formed by a strangler fig in Colombia.
It is among the largest species in its genus. The back is dark brown, almost black, and the underside is paler. Bright white lines mark the face and run along the back.
It is frugivorous; fruits of Cecropia and Ficus are reported in the literature summarized by the 2022 paper. In October–November 2021, observers found a group using a dark cavity in a strangler fig at about 5.9 m as a daytime roost. The observed group varied from three to nine bats.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
