This living bat is recorded in China. MDD lists China and marks Myanmar as uncertain. A 2025 Xizang survey recorded it among bats collected in mixed coniferous forest in Yadong County.
A prominent arched lobe projects forward from the rear edge of the ear. A 2021 study identifies this shape in all three living Submyotodon species, including this species.
A study published in 2025 reports collecting this species with four other bat species in mixed coniferous forest in Xiayadong Township, Yadong County, China. Dense thickets and bamboo forest surrounded the site.
