This wetland bird resembles a large purple-and-green moorhen. It is patchily distributed across sub-Saharan Africa and feeds mainly on plants, with invertebrates and fish also recorded.
- Bornean Mountain Ground Squirrel Dremomys everetti
This squirrel occurs in the mountains of Borneo. Stomach contents from 26 Mount Trus specimens were mostly insects, with fruit, nuts, leaves, and shoots also recorded. The current Mammal Diversity Database uses Sundasciurus everetti, while ADW retains the older genus.
- White-headed Barbet Lybius leucocephalus
The White-headed Barbet is an African bird whose black-and-white plumage varies geographically. It is often found near fig trees.

The ear-spot squirrel lives on Borneo. A pale patch behind each ear is a useful identifying feature.
- Lompobattang Leaf Warbler Phylloscopus sarasinorum
This leaf warbler occurs on the Lompobattang massif in southwestern Sulawesi. A pale crown stripe and a wingbar help describe it. The paper treats birds elsewhere on Sulawesi as the separate species P. nesophilus.
