The montane African climbing mouse has a dark stripe along its back and a pale underside. It occurs in East African highlands and has been recorded at high elevations on Kilimanjaro.
The upper coat is buffy brown with a dark stripe down the back. The underside is pale cream, and parts of the limbs are white.
A survey on Kilimanjaro’s southeastern slope found it at every sampled site from about 2,000 to 4,000 m; the highest capture point was 4,240 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
