This long-tailed rodent is recorded in montane forest around Mount Kahuzi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it has been collected among bamboo and ferns.
The tail is longer than the head and body combined.
The known record is from montane bamboo forest on Mount Kahuzi, in an area with extensive fern cover.
On 21 January 1972, an adult female was collected in a ravine on Mount Kahuzi at 2,150 m, a few hundred metres upstream from the first specimen’s locality.
The back is dark brown, with a broad black stripe running from the head to the base of the tail.
The hairs from the mouth to the chest are white to their bases; farther back, the ventral hairs have white tips and dark grey bases.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
