Pycroft's Petrel breeds on islands off the northeastern North Island of New Zealand. It is active at night around colonies and feeds on small crustaceans and squid near the sea surface during long flights.
This small grey-and-white petrel has a dark M-shaped pattern across the upper wings and rump. Its dark grey head is speckled black and white on the forehead.
It is active at breeding colonies after sunset. At sea it feeds on small crustaceans and squid, mostly from the surface, and migrates to the tropical central Pacific after breeding.
