This horseshoe bat is known from Aba in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Brown and reddish coats have been described. At Aba, it was found in caves shared with other bats.
Bats described from Aba in 1917 included a dark-brown form with a paler underside and a reddish cinnamon-brown form. Short, stiff tufts under the arms were rusty or pale yellow. The prominence of these tufts varied among the bats examined.
The 1917 field account records bats found singly in caves at Aba. The same caves were occupied by other horseshoe bats and leaf-nosed bats of the genera Rhinolophus and Hipposideros.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
